Undying Rage Fail

Was playing Tryndamere yesterday and I noticed that I died as soon as I used Undying Rage and just realized that it is due to the summoner skill Smite . Someone made an educated guess and told me that it might be a new balance thing, but I disagree.

Tryndamere is squishy as he is and with one skill/item countering him out, then he is basically a useless champion in a team fight, specially in ranked due to the enemy team seeing who you're using can just get 2 players with smite items and you're down with 1 combo.

Is this a new thing that all players should be aware of or just a bug due to the new transition items?
