Mid Game Update

I was trying to play a nice game of ranked to start my morning. However, I was rudely interrupted shortly after starting by my game crashing. I had to log out and log in for an update in the MIDDLE of a ranked match and ended up ultimately losing the game. If anyone explain how or why this happened, then I'd make me feel slightly better, but honestly, I wasn't lost forgiveness, which, I know, will never happen now.
