Client blackscreen in champion select

I've been trying to queue with a friend, after accepting the match, it black screens instantly in the client. You can still access your friends list, where i found my duo was listed as "in champion select". He said he experienced the same, sadly i waited about five minutes then alt+f4 and i get a wait timer. Why was a forced to suffer a 5 minute ban over some issue like that?
