client keeps restoring to an older version

When I open the launcher, it gives the message "We have restored this installation to an older version of League of Legends. Now we'll try to patch it up to the latest version." Then, when I hit ok it immediately gives the message "There was a problem patching League of Legends. We'll restore a backup version and try updating again after you restart the patcher." When I hit restart it loads up the launcher and gives the same two messages. Further more, in the top right corner it tells me that I am unable to log in because I am not connected to the internet, even though my internet is working fine. Thanks if anyone is able to help.
