Karthus e does not pop banshees and will do damage instead of blocking the first intial hit

So i was spectating a game and i noticed that e did not pop i read threw banshees passive and shouldt the e cast or first tick of damage from e pop but it instead doesnt pop it and still continues to do damage its just a little weird
