Can't connect to server

I played a couple of games with friends and on the third game when it should have gone to the load in screen I was met with an error saying I couldn't connect to the server and I should check my internet connection and try again. After hitting retry multiple times, restarting League then trying again, I was still met with the same error. My friends were forced to abandon the game and make an early surrender vote. All the while I was still on discord and searching the web for solutions, so clearly not a network issue on my part.

I've since started the League repair but I don't want to be penalized for an issue that is not my fault and I don't want this issue to reoccur. Once the league repair is done I won't know whether or not it worked unless I try, in the event that it didn't, I will be penalized again.

Any advice?
