Disconnected then couldn't return

Well i disconnected and my internet was still working and operational. So here is what happened i disconnected during a game 500 ping and the whole reconnecting. So i did what I normally do to fix it and exited to try and return. When I exited it kicked me to home screen to start a new game and wouldn't let me return. just play game and i don't understand how this could happen bc if i hit play game i could literally be in two games at once.
