[ALPHA CLIENT] pop-up saying patch needed, goes to progress bar nothing happens

So I downloaded the new client yesterday and it worked, however on trying to start it up today it displayed a message "League of Legends needs to apply a required update, This will happen automatically in [countdown from 10]" at which point it reverted to the small patcher-esque window with a loading bar, displayed the same message again then just sat at "ETA 0 MINS 0.0/0.0 MB". I closed it and loaded up my old client (thinking if there was a patch of some sort maybe that could handle it since iirc these two clients run off the same files), it applied a mini patch for something and worked fine. I closed the old one, and tried the alpha client again. At this point I was met with a message along the lines of "We'll restore to an older patch and will try updating" and then it displayed the countdown once more. From then on its just been repeatedly showing the countdown message and 0 progress bar.
