Thresh and Relic Shield (Face of the Mountain)

Whenever I take relic shield on Thresh, it never shares gold with an ally unless you kill a minion... Would like at least an explanation on this one!+ =/

don't understand the problem ....

the execute damage is for melees, thresh is a ranged champion ...
