League of Legends caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module League of Legends

FIX Nr.1: As @bar12345 already mentioned the Windows Update KB4515384 broke the game. As soon as you uninstall the mentioned update it works again without a crash.

FIX Nr.2: As @HEAL 5LUT stated it also helps to close the RivaStatisticsTuner in your taskbar and any other overclocking software like MSI Afterburner etc.

Thanks to everyone for the solutions!

Hello Everyone,

I tried playing LoL today but every time I should load into the game itself after queuing and choosing the champion the game just instantly crashes with the following error from the file "2019-09-12_01-56-28_League of Legends":

League of Legends caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module League of Legends

Read from location bca11ceb caused an access violation.

**What I've tried: **

  • Initiate Full Repair
  • Starting the game as Administrator
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Reinstalling the game on a different Drive (HDD & SSD)
  • Restarting the PC after reinstall
  • Disabling UAC
  • Adding the Windows user to the 'Security' Tab "Windows User" and gave it Full Access
  • Deleting the file game.cfg and PresetSettings (or something)
  • Run as Administrator in the compatibility settings with Win 8 setting

nothing so far helped, strangely the same happens with Dota 2 - I can get into the menu, pick the chamption but then it instantly crashes when it should start the game. Strangely other games work fine...

Would appreciate any help!

**My System Specs: **

  • i7-6700k
  • 16GB RAM
  • MSI GTX 980 Ti

Kind Regards

P.S. sorry I forgot to tag it correctly as [Crash]

I have a fix for this. Just turn off the overclock software like msi afterburner or EVGA precision . Hope this work for you.

Looks like update KB4515384 broke something, until Riot does something about it you can uninstall it in Control Panel.

EDIT: Did some more testing - for me it's actually update KB4515384 in combination with RTSS (Rivatuner Statistics Server, part of MSI Afterburner overlay), so you have to choose one or the other.

Tested both things.

You can either:

  1. Uninstall the update KB4515384
  2. Close RTSS when playing LoL
  3. Add LeagueClient.exe to the exclusion list in RTSS which you can access by shift+clicking on the green "Add" button within the programs UI while the League in-game client is running exclusion list. The client will get auto-added to the list as long as you have it opened while shift+clicking on the "Add" button.

Exactly the same issue I have right now, even the same read location.

I have the same problem after update windows 10, I follow the method provided in support for 2016 access_violation and delete the PersistedSettings.json and game.cfg files. Now I can't log in :D.

If anyone is still having this issue, not sure if it will help anyone else but I've had this issue so many times especially after a windows update or game patch. What finally worked for me I figured out was closing the RivaTuner Statistics Server module in my taskbar menu which must have been interfering with loading into the game. Not sure if you guys have this program at all but I'm glad I finally found a fix for myself and hope I can help someone else too!

edit- I spent around 16 hours all together trying to figure out this fix. I guess it's an overlay problem but not common enough to be listed in the overlay list.

Same issue here, exact same error code

Running Ryzen 5 2600, Rx 580 Worked perfectly until windows update with the framework update you stated. No amount of trouble fixing seems to fix it..

It would be greatly appreciated if someone has a resolution.

I've also got the exact same issue. I've tried everything. Seemingly after a windows-update that i made on the 11th. Sorry riot. for all the bug reports ive sent these last few hours, but i dont deserve this.

Have you guys also downloaded this Windows Update before this started happening?
