Champ select bug

So as the title says, I was in champion select, doing my thing, picking my champ. Suddenly someone left, so the game should not even start right? I was still there, in champion select, for some reason, on my own. Now after like 10 minutes I decided to leave also, and I lost lp and got a time penalty? How is this possible?
