Velkoz ultimate, new SR

So about half way through the match, I was not able to activate "R". First thought i didn't press it quickly enough during a team fight before I died. Then I tried again from afar and nothing, started smashing the button but no response. Tried typing in chat and "R" worked fine, just wouldn't activate ulti. A Vel'koz with no ulti is useless in case you were wondering lol. Anyone else having issues on new map?
