Tryndamere dying during his ultimate

In my last game i just noticed that the Irelia top lane was able to kill me while my ult was active. This happened three times and caused me too eventually lose lane. She took smite into top lane and bought the red jungler item (devourer i think) the passive athat allows her to hurt me for 6 seconds afterwards allowed her to kill me while my ult was active. I am not sure if this works with all jungler items or just that one but it is very annoying and is a major counter to playing tryndamere. p.s the red smite top lane is op. Thank you.
