4v5 but wasn't able to Remake

I was playing a Ranked Solo Queue game the other day and when I was connecting into the game, I noticed that our Top Lane Jayce's portrait was blank (a sign that they hadn't connected yet), and the game started with his portrait blank and Jayce standing in the middle of the fountain. Our team assumed we'd be able to remake and we went out and played like normal expecting to be able to leave at 3 minutes.

Nothing like first blood or first tower happened in the first 3 minutes and when the 3 minutes came, we didn't receive the pop-up notification that we could remake, and when my team tried to use /remake the game said that someone had to not connect to the game first for us to be able to remake even though the Jayce was still standing in the middle of the fountain and had not entered the game at all. I also found it odd that the game never said that the player playing Jayce had disconnected (with the typical "A Summoner has disconnected").

In the post game lobby after a painful 4v5 in which we almost won, I noticed Jayce's portrait had an X over it, which I assumed is another sign that he never connected.
