Champ shards are legit a rip off (or there is an error)

Hello. I would like to say i almost never post. But I saw something that must be a error in the system. If its not then there is proof that riot is screwing its players over with champ shards!

I was trying out the new lvling system on a new account today. Doing this to see if it is worth recommending a friend get into this toxic yet fun game. so i got a basic champion capsule thing. and got a janna shard from it. wooo me a lousy shard is my first thought. my second thought was ehh i need 20 champs to play normal draft (well that and lvl 10) doing math you need a min of 9k be to unlock 17 champs and you get 3 for free. so i thought lets use the shard to save be since im only at 4k/9k. so i click on the champ shard mouse over to unlock permanent. and i see the cost. 810 blue essence. 810 be for a 675 be champ.

WHAT THE FUCK!

it cost more essence to use the champ shard for janna then it does to fucking buy the champ with essence?!!? I then start re looking to see if im stupid and not seeing something. nope this must be an error. must be. cause the other shards are discounts. either that or they are making a small % a rip off to suck out the essence from players. Riot!!! fix your shit!!!
