[Client][Crash] "PVP.net Patcher Kernel has stopped working"

I've been playing League daily for several years without issues. When I tried to start up the program, it went straight to the error message (no log-in screen or anything). I then tried re-installing the program but got the same error. Do I need to reformat my computer to get this to work again? Thanks for your time
