Animated Login Screen Temporary Fix [Black Bars] [Mac Tested]

*Greetings Summoners * First I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and to thank Riot for all their hard work on this great game! Recently in December, the game has had its fair share of problems. Login Queues, Chat Reconnects, Store Lag (At least what is what I experienced). However, I've been experiencing a problem since November when patch 4.20 (begin MLG quickscoping wombo combo montage) released. Starting with the Kalista login, the animation for Kalista would be cut off, making it shorter and having black bars to the right and bottom of the login panel (See the attachment for a look). While it destine affect gameplay and there are more things that Riot should be focusing on, I was hoping that a small fix would be made. It's been 2 months already and I'm still having the same problem. And it just makes me more and more frustrated. Most people say that the best fix is to turn off the animation. But, where is the fun in that? After tampering with my settings a little bit, I think I was able to find a temporary solution on my Macbook Pro. However there are some problems that I shall address later, and so I shall list my specs.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) Running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1

• Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
• Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

Now the fix is very simple. Click the Apple Logo on the Menu Bar located on the Top Left Corner and click About This Mac > Displays > Displays Preferences... Simply check Scaled under Resolution: and pick a resolution with more space and smaller text. My Macbook shows 4 options.

1. Larger Text 2. Best (Retina) 3. A line passes through the last option and the next one, indicating it is between the two resolutions 4. More Space

Naturally, my Macbook sets the resolution to the second option. By moving it to the third and fourth option, I was able to see the animation without any black bars. Moving it to option 1 would not fit the login screen to optimal levels. Now to address the problems I mentioned earlier. By increasing your resolution, your Mac may run slower! At first, the Rek'Sai login would lag. Yet, the lag was weird since it would lag at the exact same spot of his animation. I tried again an hour later and now it seems fine with no lag. And while writing this 3 hours after the discovery, I still have no lag while the animation is running. I shall also address that I had Safari, Keynote and Messages opened all three times that I tested it. Also, none of my apps has been force closed (from activity monitor), meaning that I do not have to close apps to save some ram to use the login screen at a higher resolution. I have not tested a game with the increased resolution but I'm sure I'll try it tomorrow. Hopefully there won't be a negative impact on gameplay. Anyways that is it. Hopefully Riot sees this and fixes it soon. Please try the fix and comment if it worked for you. If any Windows users are having the same issue, see if you can change your resolution settings. I somehow have the feeling that this is due to the Retina Display of my Mac and somehow Patch 4.20 and OS X Yosemite had something to do with the problem. Before both updates, I never had this problem. Hope this helped!
