Sona's crescendo soudn triggers but not the spell when death occurs in between

It happened twice in my last ARAM. We had a yi coming at us and I timed my crescendo to stun him, but even if I heard the sound, I did nothing (I died at the same time) and the spell was not on cooldown afterwards
