Braum Shield

While I was playing with my teammate, I saw that Braum shield was able to block azir ultimate completely, Is that really suppose to happened? I mean like, I First though that braum shield was made to do this kind of things, but is it really to be that powerful? When Azir used hes ultimate on braum while he had hes shield on, it did not had a single effect on him.
