Malzahar's ultimate and ignite

Hey, I've started playing Malzahar lately and I noticed that his ultimate gets immediately cancelled when you try to use ignite. I rewatched Malzahar's spotlight on Riot Youtube channel and even Phreak said that you could cast ignite on supressed enemy. It's very annoying gameplay-wise and I hope it could be fixed ASAP.

you can but if you cast malz's ult at max range you'll be slighly out of range to ignite. Move slightly closer and that should not happen

He's actually a little bugged right now since 5.13. I have played 200+ games with him and just noticed some different bugs so maybe its not actually just the ignite.
