Not Connecting to Games because of Not Downloading Patch

Everytime I get into a game and there is a new patch, my client doesn't tell me and allows me to begin a game. Once I get into a game, it tells me you need to update. ISN'T IT SUPPOSED TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE? When there is no patch, I load perfectly fine into the game. Please look into the issue. I will not get leavers for bugs...
