Constant Crashing for Mac OSX League of Legends NA after Patch 4.20

HexSymple··28 votes·17,425 views

Hello everyone,

This is HexSymple and I am here to report a bug which seems to be mutual for most Macintosh users. A few of my friends, who too, uses a Macbook Pro like me is experiencing a problem with the LoL Client as well as League of Legends itself. Just an hour or so before I decide to create this discussion, I played a Ranked game where I constantly had my game crashing back to back in intervals of less than 5 minutes. It was frustrating. Sometimes, I would be in the loading screen for a bit and the map stops loading, then the whole game crashes. And even when I manage to enter the game, the game freezes out of the blue and Bugsplat appears(I crash.).

I tried restarting my computer a couple of times as well but to no avail, the game continued to crash constantly. I managed to survive the game and win it in the end but that wasn't the end of my problems. LoL Patcher itself started crashing the moment I opened it and this kept on happening. Then again, I restarted my computer and made sure I had my software updates installed. Even then, crash after crash, nothing was solved. I decided to delete the entire application and proceed to re-downloading and re-installing the game. I did. And as all of you know, installing the game takes place in the LoL Patcher, which... kept crashing. It could never proceed to install the game and now I am stuck with no League of Legends to play.

Thank you for taking your time to read my post and please, if you have any idea, any at all as to how I can fix this problem, please do drop a reply.

Can you open up a custom game, play until crashing and attach the latest game log to your post here? Sorry about the long intervals but, well, Europe.

Logs should be in /Contents/LOL/Logs/Game - R3d Logs once you open the LoL app package.

Yeah I had a problem where my game would completely freeze. Cursor was still moveable and I had to force exit the game. After a couple of games of this, and an leaving game warning I decided to re install my game. However, now my patcher keeps crashing and I'm unable to update my game to 4.20.

exactly the same, just now. Need help!!!

I create a normal game with my friends, and I can't load in the game after 100%. It bounce back to reconnect page. I tried to reconnect for few times, but it failed.

Then, I tried to restart the whole LOL, can't even get into the launch page. I tried a few times and restart my computer and tried again, ALL FAILED.

What should i do now? I really love this game! How can i fix this problem?

Everyone who know this please help.

Thank you very much. T^T item 3067

Thank you. Yosemite.

Alright, anyone else here runs Yosemite? What's your mac model? Graphic card? Anyone experienced crashes with OSx10.9? If yes, what exact version? Is anyone running some constant background program that you might share with friends, like, i don't know, MacKeeper or some other thing that's always on?

You can find almost every info i'm asking for by going to the top left corner, hit the Apple symbol and click "informations on this Mac", then "more informations" on the bottom.

Can you guys try and do something, it'd help trying to understand what's going on. Post data like this:

Crashing: (frequency) OSX version: (number) Model: (type and year) Graphic card: (name and details) Extra notes: (anything you might feel relevant)

Example, for me it would be:

Crashing: Never OSX version: 10.9.4 Model: MacBookPro 13", mid 2010 Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB Extra notes: constantly running fan and ram monitoring programs, no issue there

Thanks to all who help.

Same issue happening, sick of getting grief from teammates. Really sick of getting leaver buster warnings due to a coding issue on Riot's end that has seemingly gone on for months unanswered Always my machine locks up mid game randomly. No frame drops or ping spikes, temps are normal and fans are running full.

I work in IT and have been trying to solve the issue on my own, to then post the solution to you all, but have now resorted to giving info to the community for a hopeful fix.

I have a strong feeling I have narrowed down the issue in console, for my crashes, in Yosemite at least.

Crashing: Rather Frequently OSX version: 10.10.1 Model:Macbook Pro 15 Inch Mid 2010 Graphic card: NVidia Geforce GT 330M 256M

Extra notes: Everytime is happens I get the same exact string of console warnings and crash. These things all happen on the same second.

-LeagueofLegends: WARNING: The Gestalt selector gestaltSystemVersion is returning 10.9.1 instead of 10.10.1. Use NSProcessInfo's OperatingSystemVersion property to get correct system version number. Call location: -LeagueofLegends: 0 CarbonCore 0x993dc7e7 __Gestalt_SystemVersion_block_invoke + 135 -LeagueofLegends: 1 libdispatch.dylib 0x98e1d130 _dispatch_client_callout + 50 -LeagueofLegends: 2 libdispatch.dylib 0x98e1d0b5 dispatch_once_f + 251 -LeagueofLegends: 3 libdispatch.dylib 0x98e1e0d8 dispatch_once + 31 -LeagueofLegends: 4 CarbonCore 0x9936efb8 _Gestalt_SystemVersion + 1050 -LeagueofLegends: 5 CarbonCore 0x9936eb69 Gestalt + 150 -LeagueofLegends: 6 BugSplat 0x03c50930 -[BugSplat initWithDatabase:appName:version:] +221 -LeagueofLegends: BugSplatFramework: initWithDatabase: defaultExceptionHandler is set

then a few seconds later

I have tried updating my tk/tcl to 8.6.3 as I read that would fix the gestalt check issue, but it has not. I have also tried repairing LoL, fully updating OSX and LoL, turning off all background processes aside from gfx and smc fan control (I use these to monitor fan speed and temp, and select video card preference) Bluetooth is off, and it happens on wifi or ethernet, and it happens in multiple locations.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP US RIOT WE ARE NOT HAPPY CAMPERS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should note I must hard reset and reboot, then attempt to reconnect.

Im having a similar problem, ever since this recent patch update. My game crashes to the point it's crashing my macbook 4/5 games and therefore taking me a good 5+ minutes to get back into games, meaning with this new 'leaver buster system' Im now being punished for their client bug.

Ediwir12 votes

Can't be fixed without knowing what to look for. Can you tell me your system version and mac model? It'd be really appreciated.

version 10.9.5. i posted what my issue is above this comment. please help me.

10.9.4 works fine 10.8.5 minor freezing/frame rate drops 10.7.0 major freezing (almost every time diana use Q etc.) typically results in visual display problems

These are by far the most infuriating issues that I have encountered regarding this game thus far. The lag is horrible, my FPS drops below 20 frequently, and it is just overall no fun. It's almost like Riot released the Summoner's Rift Beta without testing it on Mac or something.

cbw12 votes

My fps goes from 60 to 1 constantly, thought it was just me.

Ediwir11 votes

do you have any of those issues on other maps, like TT, or is it just SR? have you played on the new/old SR during the testing period, did you notice differences?

Yeusidis2 votes

I lag on every map because UserKernel and LolPatcher are unresponsive whilst running in the background.

EDIT: Though it is definitely worse on Summoner's Rift. It won't even show my FPS correctly. Says it's at 30-40 and it's really at, like, 15.

sipy262 votes

I am on a MacBook Air (2012) on OSX 10.9.4.

Every single game on SR, I will disconnect ONE time ever since patch 4.20. I'm not exaggerating: it is every, single, game and it only happens once per game.

It makes playing all games very difficult, particularly ranked. Haven't tested other maps other than SR.

SentimentalNa2 votes

Same here......it happens just ONCE per game....but its annoying enough....now I can't play any other role except from support....

Im using Macbook Pro (2012) on OS X Yosemite 10.10.

P.S This happens on ARAM as well....so Im not sure if this is due to the new map or the server itself (or my computer?).

Hey I just wanted to say I am having the same issues. I tried to uninstall the game and re install the game and it simply crashes. I got it all the way to 70% and then it shut itself out and went back to 33%. I cannot play League on my Mac. I have 10.10.1 OS X Yosemite. Pleaseeeee help Riot

OrangeDrumr1 votes

Im having the same issue.

Same OS, but on an iMac late 2012. Very frustrating.

I got it to work after starting the process over and over again on my macbook july 2009 (same OS) but that doesn't seem to be helping here.

Please help fix this, it is becoming increasingly frustrating...

Tristán1 votes

Same problem here. Riot is not helping, they just banned people as if we were AFK flamers!!! :-(

VictoriousGogi1 votes

Wow a lot of people have been having the same problem as me. I really think that Riot should start taking this more seriously. Here is my problem. When I go on to the patcher and launch the game, everything is fine. When I try to login, 90% of the time, it will just fail to connect to the server. My internet is fine, my chrome doesn't crash, it literally just league. I don't play ranked anymore because I fear that I'll lag spike. My ping is anywhere from 80 to a 1000, at which point the game just crashes. I even sent riot a player support ticket, 5 hours later, no response. Really riot? You'd think that a wealthy company such as Riot would be more serious about this kind of stuff. I don't even have a crappy computer, a Mac retina display 13 inch. With the newest software update available. So its not the internet, its not my mac, so it has to be League. I swear

Fluffy5201 votes

Again, at least riot has the common courtesy to LET YOU EVEN UPDATE you client. I don't even get that luxury... BUT, i know your pain and I'm sorry. AND you are DEFINITELY correct in saying that riot needs to pull their shit together and work on a working MAC client. Don't mean to hate RIOT but I'm a little too pist about NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY YOUR OWN GAME to care...

Same problem Crashing: every game during champ selection, loading and during the game. If I reconnect it crush after few seconds. OSX version: yosemite 10.10.1 Model: macbook pro 2011 Graphic card: intel hd graphics 3000 384 MB Processor 2.3 GHz intel core i5 Extra notes: my connection is good, no background apps running. the fan is really noisy after or during crush. I tried to Reset the System Management Controller, Reset NVRAM, repair the game and reinstall. Another bug is that if I am not available to reconnect to the game for too long, when I finally do the game disconnect me again because I was inactive for too long! If I reconnect after a disconnection I should not be disconnected because inactive. last log: Logs-2014-12-24T02-37-09

Your lucky you can even GET INTO A DAMN GAME. I very recently repaired my MAC because it could not read my hard drive. They replaced my hard drive and I lost all my data. So i reinstalled league... or so I thought. For some reason, probably because this game TRULY HATES meTrundle , the patcher gets to about 80%-90% done, then the kbps drops to 0 with about 100-60 MB's to go. I KNOW it's NOT my internet. I KNOW it's not my comp. I tried every other possible method to fix it (using the activity monitor, repairing, switching regions over and over, deleting the kernel, etc.) but this game does not want to work for me. YOU have fun playing, while i sit here, banging my head against a wall, wondering why this game won't allow me to play it.

IF ANYONE can help me with this retarded patcher, PLEASE do not hesitate to assist me. RIOT, if you would be so kind to help me play your own game, that would be AMAZING, until then, ill sit here hating you ...

Just started having this problem! I'm able to get into the game but everything just stops moving after about 20 seconds. Leave, get back in, everything freezes after 20 seconds again. The ping doesn't change either, it will just stay frozen.

Crashing: Every 20 seconds OSX version: Yosemite Model: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2012 Graphic card: nVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Extra notes: Tried disabling my firewall and making sure that LoL was on the list of approved apps. Whenever I had to force close the program, something called a "BugSplat" program would open up and required me to enter my password. Strangely, I can spectate games perfectly fine.

100% here. i readed some post and i can just say that Rito see and Rito doesn't care. this bug is on every amc since 4.23. Also everytime i die, 1 sec befor game freezes for 2 secs. SO ANNOYING!1! 2 secs is enough to use flash, or heal.

Szymstaf1 votes

I thing i found a solution. I was playing league since 2013, and there wero no bugs on my mac mid 2007. after patch 4.20 i stopped playing beacouse of those bugs we were experiencing (crashing 3 to 5 times in one game). on this weekend i said to my self "fuck it. if rito doest care about mac users and wont repair this bug (i waited since 4.20 to now, 5.3) i will find my own way to play my favorite game. I experienced no bugs for about 6 games since i changed my resolution from 1680 to 1344 (or something like that, i dont remember) and changed to Windowed mode. i had about 50 fps and no crashes. But i dont think that the resolution and high details on low end computer were causing troubles, beacouse i had about 25-30 fps with 1680 resolution, no shadows (good i wasnt playing zed) and medium champ details and medium map details. so yea, try this and post here about ur experience. Hi, InsideDemon here

I too have the same problem (a mac user). I have no trouble whatsoever with starting up my LoL but when its during a game, it crashes every few minutes and its getting very annoying, not a little but very. Especially when you're zed mid owning the lane and then your screen suddenly freezes and the only thing you can do and I mean the ONLY thing is move your mouse; you can't force quit or anything but to force shut my mac. BUT THE MOST ANNOYING THING IS AFTER ALL THIS YALL RIOT DECIDED TO PUT ME ON LOWER PRIORITY QUE FOR 20 MINS FOR 5 GAMES??!!! YALL OUT OF YA MIND I SAY. Like for real???? Also the case with my shop background, they're all in translucent red as if its highlighted and its very hard to read the items or perhaps even see what they are. Please I hope someone from Riot fix this. Zed
