After logging in, LoL freezes my entire computer [CLIENT]

sparf·3/13/2015, 5:34:53 AM·67 votes·115,293 views

I updated my LoL to 5.5 and now when I try to log in, it freezes my entire computer. Everything frozen, and time does not help it unfreeze. I have no idea why and what is making this happen, as it was working perfectly fine. I have no idea to fix it. After logging in, it goes to the homepage and then freezes my entire computer, forcing me to restart it. I have tried reinstalling the game and that did not help. I have tried to log in 5 times, and every time I try, my entire computer freezes and makes me restart.

Computer information: Windows 8.1 Proccessor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz 1.73 GHz Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

I started having this after I updated Windows 7 (haven't updated in some time) rolling back removes this issue and updating again causes it. Attached list of updates.

chaoscommencer7/18/2015, 5:54:21 AM3 votes

I have also been seeing this issue. However, for me it only started up the past few days. I notice it most when I have Chrome opened (which has a ton of tabs up). I assume if you have other programs consuming similar quantities of resources, you should see the same thing.

The computer freezes after logging in. The mouse may or may not be responsive afterwards. Unable to open task manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Shift-Esc to kill the offending processes after the freeze. Manual power down required (this issue should be taken more seriously and addressed straightaway as this is very bad for players' computers on top of being bad code).

I went to the support site and entered a ticket, as i am having the same issue. Keep in mind that i am still in contact with Riot. Here is what they said:

1.switch to a public DNS here is the How-to link (https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/26932010-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues#wq4)

2.Disable your IPv6. https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/26932010-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues#wq3

  1. Sync your windows clock - https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/35999450-Issues-with-the-League-of-Legends-Store-and-PvP-Net#wq8

4.Shut the Windows Firewall Service to make sure it isn't interfering with your connection to our servers:

  • Press Windows+R
  • Type services.msc and hit enter
  • Scroll down and find Windows Firewall in the list
  • Right-Click on "Windows Firewall" and select "Properties"
  • Change "Startup type" to "Disabled"
  • Hit "Ok"
  • Do the same for the "Windows Defender" Service
  • Reboot your machine
  1. if all of this fails perform a clean boot. - https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/28849700-Bug-Splat-and-Game-Crashes#wq6

Hope this helped for you as it didn't for me...

Same, had to force restart. Also, you can't open task manager when your entire computer freezes.

I'm having the same issue. win8 and intel please fix quick because this is very annoying

Hydaliks3/14/2015, 6:06:00 AM2 votes

I got the same exact problem

Windows 8.1 AMD A10-5745M APU 2.10 GHz 12 GB RAM 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

I also tried repairing, another form with a similar problem had that as a solution but it did not work for me.

Do we think this is fixable ourselves or are we going to have to wait for riot to fix?

The same thing happened to me. League had worked all week since I updated to Patch 5.5, but today when I updated my computer (Windows 8.1) this problem occurred. I'm really glad I'm not the only one. Riot plz.

This happens to me to, but I found some interesting stuff about it While it does freeze your whole computer skype will keep running in the background, and your call doesn't end. Also, I discovered this at my grandmas house, tried about 10 times and it didn't work. Once I got home I tried and it worked first time. Now in the morning (as I post this) it's not working again. I'll leave it for 10 mins and see if it works and then post back Edit: I'm on a windows 8 laptop and haven't had problems before btw

djump4/2/2015, 3:17:39 AM2 votes

Is there really still no response to this? Has anyone come up with a longer term solution? Do you have to wait 10 min every time?

This is happening to me as well. Bump.

Andoy3/10/2016, 5:40:07 PM2 votes

Yeah having the same problem. I haven't been able to play all week because it freezes my entire computer.

ilicstefan3/22/2016, 8:59:58 PM1 votes

I think I pinpointed the problem. It is not system related but I think it has something to do with Adobe Flash player.

I too have this problem. When I first started the game, everything froze. I couldn't move my mouse. I thought my GPU bugged so I tried again with the same result. This got me thinking so I tried it third time but this time I ran Task Manager and put it to performance tab to see CPU and memory usage. When the client showed up and I logged in it froze again and Task Manager also was stuck which pinpointed it to being a bug in the client.

Fourth time I first ran some other games to see if something is not wrong with my system just to be sure. Every other game runs well which means it is League only. So I turned League of Legends again but this time with AIMP playing some music. To my surprise music kept playing and everything else froze. That means there is some memory problem, as if something is hogging all the RAM. Just like when you run something really heavy and everything freezes up for a short time.

I just kept waiting and soon computer unfroze and I got an error message in league client itself that says there was some server issue and they sent a report to tech team bla, bla, bla...

As I read posts from this thread I found that some people claim it was a problem with OS update, but I had no update in weeks. Everything is the same as it used to be, the only thing I updated was Adobe Flash player. Since the client runs on that retarded Adobe air and when I logged in every time, all the videos and animations in client were black. As if there was some problem with displaying content.

I will test it a little bit more but I think that Adobe Flash player did something so that Adobe air client bugs.

I have the same problem . Every time when I start the game for first time after I power on my PC it freeze for 4-5 seconds .

Lustful Sheep3/26/2016, 11:24:00 AM1 votes

Ok I have a possible fix. If your running Discord or Curse. Disable the programs overlay, and it should fix it. If that doesn't work open command prompt as administrator. this can be done by right clicking select "Run as Administrator". Type: sfc /scannow. once completed, and it finds an issue type: chkdsk /r . restart the computer. If there are issues with the hard drive expect this scan to run for a while. Do not abort or shutdown the pc. Let it run. if it takes a while be aware that your Hard Disk Drive or Solid State Drive is possibly dying and have a IT technician diagnose further and they can further advise. Also from command promt and type dxdiag, and ensure that your system meets the requirements to run League of Legends.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys. I just had this problem, I kept getting frustrated after logging in and having everything freeze that I would keep restarting my laptop attempting to try different things like removing background processes etc. I thought the whole "wait two minutes" thing was bs. However it came down to that solution as it was the only one left (desperate measures and all), and it WORKED. So please instead of wasting time restarting, just waste a little bit of time in waiting and it will work.
