[CRASH] Bug with patch 5.5

ShadowKingKn·3/12/2015, 11:41:45 AM·151 votes·94,423 views

The bug might have something to do with my computer running the windows 10 technical preview, but just in case it isn't that's why I'm making this post. In the last patch I didn't have any issues playing then in this one I tried to play a game as Support Thresh, opened the item store bought my first item, then crashed and anytime I try to re-launch I just have 3-4 seconds before I crash again. I included two screenshots of the bug. The Game Info: Co-op vs Intermediate bots Ally champions were: Lulu, Riven, Ezreal, Karma, Thresh Enemy champions were: Grungy Nunu, Cassiopeia, Lux, Ashe, Leona

Same issue on both computers running Windows 10 Technical Preview (Different versions). I tried running it in compatibility mode, but this doesn't resolve the problem. I tried the launcher as well. Played a game yesterday just fine. build: 5.5.15_03_09_13_59

Same with me, also Win 10! Crashes after 5sec in-game time!

Hey all,

Unfortunately, Windows 10 Tech Preview is not directly supported just yet :( For more information, **RiotAether **provided some context here:

Hey everyone, thanks for the Windows 10 crash reports. As a lot of you have pointed out, we don't support Windows 10 yet so your mileage may vary as we work toward full compatibility. That said, MMACheerpuppy hit the nail on the head - we still want to do what we can to help those of you who've opted into the preview.

Speaking concretely, we're currently looking into a few leads from the log information that's been provided (animation and/or sound files appear to be the culprit at this point). No promises on timeline but we're hoping to get something out before the next patch.

For those of you guys saying that we should expect no compatibility for apps using Windows 10 is absolutely ridiculous. The preview is not just for people to test it out but also for companies to make sure their applications are stable for when it does launch. There is obviously a good amount of people using W10 now, so it should be a concern to a company when you have this many people not being able to use your product, no matter what we're using.

I'm also in the Same Boat. Windows 10 tech preview. No Problems before hand. I had a Yorick and Fiora Aram with leaves. I'm sad that I'm penalized for League of Legends updating. Why is this not tested on windows 10?

Dawnesha3/12/2015, 7:49:11 PM9 votes

Why doesn't the game automatically recognize crashing due to a game patch problem and give forgiveness to the team and to the player for 'AFK'?

WeFlyNoLie3/12/2015, 6:46:28 PM9 votes

As somebody who works in a technical support/development position, the fact that you people are expecting compatibility from a public beta of an operating system with a live application is ludicrous.

This is not a full operating system. It is a technical preview, it is not a complete build of what is going to be released as the actual product.

Why would Riot be concentrating on making sure their application runs on a technical preview? Applications and Operating Systems change when going from Beta to Beta to official release.

Its not like pulling a lever the game is automatically compatible with the operating system. It takes time to write the code in development, work through Q&A and then finally get pushed out to the actual product.

You take a risk when you decide to install a beta of an operating system. There are no guarantees it will work with any existing application that doesn't belong to Microsoft and even when the official build of Windows 10 releases, it does not mean LoL will even be supported with it then.

Companies never jump on an operating system when it first releases, doesn't anybody remember Windows Vista? We have products within my company that are just getting supported with Windows 8 and we provide hospitality management software for properties around the world.

Obviously not everybody with a technical background knows or even understands this, but what you're asking for is just absurd. If LoL doesn't work with this new patch, revert to your previous operating system. Riot has no obligation to ensure their product works with a technical preview of an operating system.

I understand completely but this was first reported hours ago, there should be some red post warning in game about using windows 10, instead of hurting 4 other peoples ranked game play. Not to mention this will most likely drop me a bracket.

It seems pretty easy to me for you to put the same type of message in game that you do with disabled champions or other issues. I understand that this happens, but after 11 hours, some form of warning should not be out of the question. I'd like my loss to loss prevented along with anyone else who is having the same problem.

I'll happily change operating systems again, I just again would like some sort of a warning in the little red circle you post all the time after patches.

I digged a little bit deeper into this crash and found the following. Every time the game crashes, one can find an error in the Windows Event Viewer application which shows that the crash results from a problem in ntdll.dll with exception code: 0xc000041d. Searching the web with this infos didn't revealed too much insight. However the error suggests that the LOL Client is hooking into a window but not releasing the handle (or that it didn't get the permission to the hook in the first place).

Furthermore, one can reproduce the same error message without even to start a game. Start LOL, click on "Launch" in the patcher to arrive at the login screen. Now open any other program with admin rights (right click on a icon in the taskbar -> open as admin). There pops up a dialog asking if you really want to run this program, click cancel. Now the LOL client crashes. This shows that the problem has its roots not in some missing textures ect but is really connected how the lol client handles/hooks into windows. Thus I think this problem is also related to the crashes which happened even 5.4 if you switch between the fullscreen lol client and some other program. This suspicion is further enhanced by the fact that these previous crashes resulted in exactly the same error message. I hope this insights help riot to solve this problem more quickly!

EDIT: Yayyyyy, thank you very much Riot for fixing it.

I have the same problem. (Win 10) Before 5.5 everything, worked fine, therefore it has something to do with the patch. I also heard, that a lot of people already told Riot while testing, therefore I don't understand, why they release the new patch, before fixing the problem.

Additionally the outgoing traffic (upstream) increased a lot causing problems with other programs like Teamspeak, after I tried to reconnect a few times into the game. It slowly decreased after closing LoL.

The most annyoing thing: After the end of the game LoL told me, that I left the game and have to type "I agree" to their ridiculous text, as if it was my fault. That was the first time that ever happened and I never left any games. I didn't try to play any other games since that bug, but if I'll see that 5 minute timer, I'll get very angry. >:(

swinginman3/13/2015, 3:17:58 PM7 votes

For those of you who are saying that it's silly that we expect the devlopment team to make league compatible with Windows 10, I say this. Why does EVERY OTHER game I own work flawlessly? If other games being actively devolped can manage Windows 10 users, why does league get a pass? Windows 10 is going to be the new standard very soon, using the logic behind "it's an unstable, unsupported OS" is equally as absurd as your're making us out to be.

I somehow fixed my Windows 10 install by screwing with my .dll files.

One or both of these things fixed it:

Deleting d3d9.dll and d3dx9_39.dll from c:\windows\system32

Or changing the permissions on d3d9.dll and d3dx9_39.dll in c:\windows\SysWow64 to not be owned by trusted installer. (I changed my ownership to Administrators).

Sorry, I broke this quite a bit before it started working but those are the two major changes I made. One or both of them might have fixed it. proof:

EDIT// - This might actually be because I rolled back Windows 10 versions. Tried a bunch of things at once like an idiot. You can reboot and tell it to rollback to the previous if that's the case.

Kbyon3/12/2015, 9:42:29 PM5 votes

Mine is doing the same thing keeps crashing over and over. Guess they didn't test this patch at all. Crashing on both a Windows 10 client and Windows 7 client. Great patch yet again.

iHurricane3/12/2015, 5:45:10 PM5 votes

I have the same problem. Patch 5.4 was perfect for Windows 10. Today LoL updated and i can't play a game with the patch 5.5.

ReactableTwo3/12/2015, 10:27:06 PM5 votes

Yeah repeated crashing of the client and after you reinstall you get greeted with some threat of action like it was your fault. Thanks riot maybe fix your client?

League of Potato3/12/2015, 11:21:55 PM5 votes

Running windows 8.1 and I can't even launch the client without the game freezing my entire system making me manually turn it off and back on. Does it every single time I try to launch league, have never had this problem with anything before. Windows updated last night and ever since these problems have been occurring. I've attempted to launch the game approximately 10 times and it froze my system every single time. What is causing this?

TheDelighted3/12/2015, 3:11:02 PM5 votes

Guys, Riot can't help you with an unstable OS environment. When trying to download Windows 10 tech preview, microsoft warned you about it. Best solution would be to revert the W10 update and see what happens. Taken right from Windows 10 download site. HERE "Important

Remember, trying out an early build like this can be risky. That's why we recommend that you don't install the preview on your primary home or business PC. Unexpected PC crashes could damage or even delete your files, so you should back up everything."

Nohart3/12/2015, 8:11:28 PM4 votes

I still have Win7 and my League won't start a game. It would just crash, I would try to reconnect and nothing happens. Nothing happens but a BUGSPLAT. I don't think this is an isolated case for Win10 users. I've read the comments and even people with Win8 and WinXP have the same problem.

I tried repairing, it's still the same.

koiji3/12/2015, 8:59:55 PM4 votes

I have windows 8 and I'm encountering this problem. it's not just windows 10 preview.

Bowser Gaming3/12/2015, 11:56:42 PM4 votes

SO I would have to downgrade to windows 7 to run League? I mean, I spent money to get Bard the first day, and I can't play him with this bug unless I want to lose all my information on my Hard Drive (which I won't do) to play League. To top it off I was going to host a LAN party tonight for League but no longer can. I dont expect a refund, but since over 15% of windows users (Roughly 24 million people) have windows 10, and of that I would guess 9% play League (about 2.1 million people). I would put this bug at the top of the to-do list. Cuz now I have to wait who knows how long to play League.

As Riot Aether said " No promises on timeline but we're hoping to get something out before the next patch." Before the next patch? What, 3 weeks to a month away? And you hope to get it out by then? Riot may lose some customers because of this. Why not just Roll back to 5.4 where everything was working for everyone?

Dawnesha3/13/2015, 6:29:28 PM4 votes

So that's it, huh? "Deal with it"

bb5kXv7OeX3/12/2015, 7:12:37 PM4 votes

All the people bitching about it only affecting windows 10 need to stop and listen, I'm on windows 8 and I cant even log in as it crashes my computer as soon as enter my password item 3151

Vox Boxx3/12/2015, 11:58:36 AM3 votes

same thing is happening to me, windows 10 tech preview. win10 just recived an update last night. can't tell if its league or windows.

Zahros3/18/2015, 8:49:18 PM3 votes

Riot: "It's been 6 days, they still think we care about W10 users."

Illumynization3/19/2015, 12:30:24 AM3 votes

Why are you guys even trying to play a PvP match when this issue is obviously present? I'm sure they are working on a fix, be patient. Our operating system will not be 100% supported until release but that also means that if they patch it now they wont have to worry about the same issue when the official release comes out.

If you want to test the crash for a patch, load up a custom game and see if you can stay in game more than 5 seconds. It will let you know if it's patched yet or not!!

nightˉ3/15/2015, 5:34:32 PM3 votes

Any update on the status of a hotfix release timeline?

IamRmiracle3/16/2015, 4:37:16 PM3 votes

since I got leave buster for 5 mins, ill spend it writing to riot about how its bull shit they didn't warn anyone patch 5.5 would crash. we test w10, a little heads up that shit will go wrong would of been nice? or wait... that's asking way to much from your customers right? what a joke.
