Sivir spell shield doesnt block nasus e

When i was playing sivir in aram my spell shield wouldnt block the initial dmg from nasus e. Usually nasus e dmg is insignificant but this one was building ap. The spell shield ability specifically says "blocks a single enemy ability". Last time i checked nasus's was my enemy and his e is an ability so i was wondering why sivir spell shield doesnt do anything.
