Mac Client constantly crashes in game

Hi, I'm a league of legends mac client user. For the past year, I've been frequently crashing in game (at a rate of once per game). It's made playing ranked almost impossible because I'll always lose the lane from a crash. I'm having trouble figuring out what causes the crash, but I've isolated a few events that often trigger it.

  1. The first auto-attack against a minion in lane
  2. Dying.
  3. Autoing with Vayne Q (I think it might be a subset of the first one)
  4. the crash always happens in the early game, and once the game has crashed, it almost never crashes twice within the same game.

I've tried everything from fixing the league client, reinstalling, updating my mac OS.. etc

If there's anyone else out there with similar issues, please reach out to me. I've sent numerous bug reports to Riot but I haven't gotten a single response. Please help me address this issue, Riot, it's driving me insane!

P.S: if you want to look through my match history for games where it occurs, here's a list.

  1. 28:40 minute game on Twitch on 1/20/18 ( While Walking to lane 0/0/1, occurs while I auto the first minion, and followed by Draven double killing me and thresh. )
  2. 26:19 Twitch game on 1/20/18 (Crash after I die the first time)
  3. 31:26 Trist game on 1/20/18 (crash after auto first minion, didn't not die though)
  4. 38:04 Vayne Game on 1/20/18 (crash after first empowered Q auto, and followed by my first blood death)

That's just a list from today and there are many many more.

Hey I have some good news...well sorta.

I have tracked down the issue and have formed a possible conclusion. So far in testing, I have not crashed in the last 10 games!

The issue appears to be related to OpenGLMT. Its how our Mac works with windows, graphics, etc. Anyways the problem I noticed is that in the beginning, the Mac thinks I have clicked "through" the game and wanted to interact with another open program. This causes a conflict because both programs want to become priority at the same time. Then OpenGLMT doesnt know what to prioritize and crashes.

Now I have no clue why it STOPs happening after the 4th minute. Possibly this is due to the client fully loading?

Anyways to the solution!

So two things have worked for me.

  1. Stop spam clicking with your mouse! Around the 3 minute mark, I make sure to limit how fast and often I am right clicking. I found when I was spamming it to walk around in circles (boredom) waiting to the game, I would crash. This is usually until the 4 minute mark and then I go back to spamming clicks.

  2. Minimize Applications_ (Still testing)_ Once you are able to tab out, minimize the game window and anything else still open. This way your mouse doesnt interact with anything behind the game screen. This isn't perfect because I have at times been able to open up the right click menu on the desktop. Solution 1 works the best.

I truly hopes this works for you guys!

**If a Riot employee is watching, I have tons of logs and can provide full system specs etc if needed. **

I have the same problem and have tried the same things to get it to stop the crashes. I am still looking for a fix. I went as far as to completely cleaning my Mac. I have researched this issue and the problem may be updating the operating system. I didn't have this problem with crashing until I updated to High Sierra.

Have the same problem. Luckily I haven't crashed mid fight yet, but it'll happen sooner or later

Yes, I have the same problem. I crash 1-2 times during a match. My first crash usually happens after I die or the first time I hit the opponent, second time when I die. I do sometimes crash 3 times during a match, consuming up to 13mins of my game time. This is affecting my games severely. Anyone who has/had this problem. please help.

I also have problem Login into my league client. My internet is working fine but the client doesn't seem to connect, eventually, after re-trying more than 5x only then It logs me in.

I know it's a necro but is this still happening? One of my good friends quit over this. Wanted to know if it's been fixed.

Hey Riot, it would be really nice if you at least responded. Even if it is a "no clue" response. Knowing that you are aware of this issue would provide some reconciliation. It is extremely rage inducing when this happens in game. I've been playing league on my mac since season 4 and I haven't had this issue until these past 2-4 months, and it happens at least once every two games. I'm wondering what has changed that would make this problem suddenly just start happening. I've also already tried restoring my client but that didn't fix the problem. If you do actually read this, thanks for listening and I'm sure you'll begin looking into this problem if you aren't already.

Riot don't care at all about this i think...

I found that if you hide the client sometimes it wont crash. Its when it is open that it will crash a few times! They need to fix this its impossible to play. The only way i can make it through a game is playing tanks so when i get kicked out and die i can still be useful later on ahah.

This started happening to me when the pre season was launched. The last patch or two, the frequency seems to have reduced but it’s still happens about every 3-4 games. No clue what to do. Between the upgrades to the macOS UI with the metal API and the changes to the client at the start of preason, someone screwed up somewhere.
