League isn't responding and results in an endless patch loop

Hey everyone, First I'm gonna start this by saying that I am reporting this for a friend who has been having this issue for a bit but is too upset to ask or something, I dunno. Anyway, the main issue seems that every few games or so she will load up a game and then nothing will work for her. She can't move, she can't buy things, she can't do anything other than watch the game go on. She found out she can "fix" it by restarting her entire computer, but then it still happens the next few games. She said that she doesn't have any other applications open (except for Discord and I know there is an overlay issue but that doesn't seem to be the issue). Another issue that might be related to this or not is that League sent her back to the last patch to try and fix it? but then isn't able to download for some reason and restarts the patch download over from the beginning. If anyone knows if this is fixable or not we would love to know. Thanks.
