New Queue Problems

I've had some issues queuing up for draft pick since the new changes. I'll go queue up for a match by selecting my preferences and wait. When a match has been made, I'll go through the process of selecting my character and selecting my ban (if it applies) and then waiting for the rest of my (and the other) team to fulfill this obligation. This process seemed like a beautiful change to the norm. I was so excited until I began to experience problems getting into an actual game. The problems are as follows:

1. Someone in queue will drop. Now this doesn't mean that they even intended to drop and I understand that there is some time needed to acclimate for the new changes of "locking in" a selected ban or champion, however this seems to happen more frequently than prior to the update. It's either due to champs locking in or, more frequently, it's due to players dropping altogether.

2. I'm perpetually stuck trying to get a match going. This is because of the aforementioned queue droppers or because there simply isn't a match available. The time to game is staggeringly long by comparison to earlier this, heck even last, year.

3. Problems locking in. This is an issue I didn't see being reported in the forums but if I'm trying to make a last second decision because of feedback from the team or attempting to select the correct champion I need every second provided. Multiple times I have selected a champion I wish to ban OR select for play and tried to lock in with seconds to spare...but I'm booted and then I have the count-down timer telling me that I did wrong. Is it a latency issue? Is it a bug with specific champions? Who knows. I do know that I'm being made to wait quite a while to play a game and heaven forbid I do something that isn't fast enough for the count-down clock, because that means I'm waiting even longer.

I have easily waited over 30 minutes through 4 different game setups and still not been able to play. Has anyone experienced this or something like it?
