Sion's Q does not do the damage it should

babydead··37 votes·7,286 views

When you fully charge Sion's Q, it doesn't seem to do the damage it should. I thought I'd build the damage to clear minion waves in 1 q. It said that at max charge, it would do 300 + 395 damage. This, according to my calculation, would be 695 damage without any extra's and such. Ranged minions had 500 hp, 0 armor, 0 magic resistance. Yet, my fully charged Decimating Smash did only 407 damage.

Now, I realise that his Q only does 80% damage on minions. However, 695 * 0.8 = 556. The minions still should have died.

I'm not being extremely stupid somehow, am I?

Unfortunately this is a tooltip bug. I'll double check next week and make sure that the intended numbers are working but my hunch is that 60% is the real number that he is balanced around.

Why is it .6?

I feel that keeping a fully time-expending charged Sion Q should be able to decimate Caster Minions.

Saixos1 votes

My guess is that it would give sion too much splitpushing power, and also allow him to stack his w passive too quickly.

Pretty much, we wanted the reward for hitting champs with a fully charged Q to be insane, but those poor minion waves don't ever dodge it. We're aiming for good waveclear, not best in game levels.

Report noob minions for feeding.

But seriously, imagine if they could dodge abilities...

They already eat abilities for your enemies. Don't make them dodge them too. D:

What about that last time it got nerfed from 90% to 80% (the last documented change it received) was it 60% all along or was it faulty patch notes and tooltip that didn't document the change properly?

If it was a faulty tooltip change after the nerf, that would explain why jungle Sion suddenly became unviable so quickly.

If the patch notes said 80%... I say we buff it back to where the tooltip says instead of changing the tooltip.

We deserve the nerf we were promised, not a bigger nerf with a tooltip of the original nerf!

So, perhaps, I am no crazy... I personally thought Sion's Q was not doing enough damage the last time I played him. I thought I had wrong runes... but I didn't...

Delimon0071 votes

I kinda found this out when I went full AD sion that my Q was not doing the damage it was supposed to so I stopped playing him especially as an AD bruiser.

I Main Swain1 votes

do they still have the bug on him where if you're standing at the bottom of the steps up into an enemy base and q at the base, the steps will hide the q?

dr lichdeath1 votes

it also gets hidden if sion is hiding in a bush

I Main Swain1 votes

that's intentional though. it's the same with a lot of abilities like nunu ult, galio ult, etc.

Is the in-game tooltip saying that Decimating Smash deals 80% damage to minions?

The good news is that Decimating Smash actually deals 60% reduced damage to minions.

The bad news is that Decimating Smash might actually still be bugged. 695 * .6 = 417, so you are still getting cheated out of some damage.

junglerboy163 votes

The tooltip does say 80% damage, and it is supposed to be 80%, not 60%, which we know because of the last time Q got a nerf, the damage it dealt to minions and monsters was reduced from 90% to 80%.

It was never reduced to 60% at any point since the relaunch, and should never be dealing only 60% damage under any circumstances.

Check Sion's champion page on the website: http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/sion/

"Sion charges up a heavy blow for up to 2 seconds. When released, he deals 20/40/60/80/100 (+60% Attack Damage) to 60/120/180/240/300 (+180% Attack Damage) physical damage to enemies in the area (60% damage to minions). Enemies hit are briefly slowed. If Sion charges for at least 1 second, enemies are knocked up and stunned for 1.25 to 2.25 seconds."

It's weird because it's never been patched to only deal 60% damage to minions as opposed to 80%, but at the same time that is how it seems to be working in-game.

junglerboy162 votes

That is a huge goof on Riot's part then, because the patch notes here: Patch 5.6 notes | League of Legends say otherwise, and it has never been supposed to say 60% or deal 60%.

junglerboy161 votes

My guess is that it is likely a bug, and it could be any of several things, like the AD ratio being incorrect, the damage reduction against minions being incorrect, or possibly the base damage being off. You'd have to test it more thoroughly, like checking the damage against champions, checking the damage against minions with no bonus AD, checking the damage with armor pen, etc.

if you look on leagues website at sion's abilities it does in fact do 60% damage to minions.

Decimating Smash Cost: 45 Mana Range: 10000 Sion charges a powerful swing in an area in front of himself that will deal damage to enemies when released. If he charges for enough time, enemies hit by the swing will also be knocked up and stunned. Sion charges up a heavy blow for up to 2 seconds. When released, he deals 20/40/60/80/100 (+60% Attack Damage) to 60/120/180/240/300 (+180% Attack Damage) physical damage to enemies in the area (60% damage to minions). Enemies hit are briefly slowed. If Sion charges for at least 1 second, enemies are knocked up and stunned for 1.25 to 2.25 seconds.
