Problem with casting spells immediately after selecting them

I recently began laying LoL again after about a year off. When I came back, I noticed that once I select a spell hotkey such as Q and then immediately try to click to cast that it won't work. I end up having to spam the left mouse button three or four times before the spell actually goes off. I don't know if this is lag or an issue with the game but if someone has experienced a similar problem please send some feedback.
