Just played a round as Thresh with the new masteries and all that but I ran into a situation where I was using Targon's Brace and Face of the Mountain. It wouldn't execute enemies under the 250HP mark and hand off the gold to my ADC so I thought I'd bring this up. It worked sometimes but about 85% of the match it wasn't working. Shield did work but the execute a minion ability did not.
Only melee attacks will proc the execute of FotM line. Thresh is actually ranged. You can still get the heal/gold share, but he must last hit properly to do it.
The execute only applies to melee autoattacks.
Gold is shared if you kill the minion through any method (AAs, abilities, Sunfire Cape, etc).
This is how it has always worked (except the first patch after it was released a couple years ago).
This is such a common question, maybe the bug report should be to alter the tooltip to "Melee attacks will proc; this does not include Thresh as he's ranged".
