Unable to connect to the server

I am logged in and started a game, but a box keeps popping up saying "failed to connect. unable to connect to the server. please check your network connection and attempt to reconnect to your game." two things - 1. I looked through the forum on how to fix and tried numerous things that didn't work, so AFAIK the solution to my problem isn't on here. 2. will i be counted as a leaver even though i'm having client issues? thanks
