When playing as gangplank I have built Ludens Echo thinking that it would proc on using Q, since it applies on hit effects and is a spell, (much like an Ezreal Q, to my understanding). Although when using q, it never procs Ludens, and only can be achieved through using my ultimate. As I am writing this I realize that building Lich Bane could interfere with this, but I have come too far. Thanks for your time.
Its because Luden's echo procs on spell damage.
Gangplank's Q is a special ability in that the damage it deals is treated as auto attack damage. This means that any on hit effects that apply to auto attacks apply to Gangplank's Q. This includes life steal, the spellblade passive from sheen items, frozen mallet passive, and even tiamat/hydra (since Gangplank is considered a melee champion).
However, because of this, Gangplank's Q DOES NOT apply any on hit effects that proc off of spell damage, which includes luden's echo, rylai's, and liandry's.
Thanks for the clarification, I am just wondering then if you know why the ezreal Q can proc Ludens? Is he just a lucky champ that gets on hit and off of Spell Damage?
