Boss on Ascension doesn't spawn

Went into a game with friends and 10 minutes into the game we went for boss in the middle the other team started fighting us as well as the boss.In the fray the boss dies but no one gets ascended and it doesn't spawn again threw out the entire game.Can you explain what happened or is this a bug?
