I cannot add friends in Legends of Runeterra nor can my friends add me because my client doesn't show my name. It only says name placeholder and name goes here. Anyone have a solution since RIOT SUPPORT IS BEING AS USELESS AS EVER.

I think it's because your League account is banned. I wish they made this clear before I dumped so many hours into the game...
I have this issue only with my account which has a 14-day ban in League of Legends. I don't think this is Riot punishing us but rather a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon. If any of you guys find a solution, please post it here. I have sent a message to Riot support but they haven't answered and its been 2 days.
Had the same problem and I reinstalled it. it worked fine afterwards.
