Champ Select Becomes Unusable

Twice today, during champ select, I have been unable to lock in a champion, change summoner spells, or get into a game. All at once. My last lobby had me unable to change teleport to heal, unable to lock Varus, and after the countdown reached zero, the game didn't start. The people in the lobby and I were still able to type in chat, even though the countdown was at zero, and they expressed remarks that would lead me to believe the game hadn't started for them either. I waited so I wouldn't get punished for leaving the lobby, even though the client was bugged, and when the lobby kicked me out I had to restart League, and on attempting to finally play, the client hits me with a 5 minute ban anyways, just as a cherry on top of the already laughably, incredulously idiotic experience.

I don't ask for it to be solved, I would just appreciate not getting slapped in the face with a dodge ban after you yank the rug out from under me.
