I'm unsure if this was a bug or not, but I personally feel that if its not considered one, it needs to start to be one. This is not balancing a team, this is in fact the opposite, as the opposing team should have received one of the unranked players. Neither of them were in a duo, because I was in the duo with Iamgrimreeper. So they were individuals simply placed into our game. Its a long running meme that soloq never properly balances team and I'm fully aware of that, but I feel programming is high enough in 2015 to understand 'oh two unranked players, split them up.' And just in case, one of them had only done 2 of their games, and one of them was a loss. the other had 7 games, with 5 total losses, this was a mid-high silver game. This should not have happened.

"Unranked" just means for that season. They may have MMR/ranking from the previous season which placed them there. I took the liberty of checking, and one of them had prior Ranked experience (ok it was Bronze, but he isn't fresh at least). The other one was indeed new to Ranked, but the thing is low-mid Silver is the baseline MMR for new players; if you want to get away from brand new players in their placements and/or few games, then you need to raise your MMR enough that it's past the placement range.
