Issue with character attacks and ZOE's Ult

I am interested to know if anyone else is having issues wit zoes ult? When playing Zoe I am constantly struck by CC or attacks during my ult.

The issue is that the spell is aimed at my original portal location, I use my ult before hand to try and avoid it, but it doesn't seem to matter, the spell strikes the empty air of my original portal and i am affected by it by despite the fact I am now in a different location.

This is super obvious with things like Illaoi's e, which i have seen pull my soul out of the portal despite the fact character is now in a new location.

Not sure if Riot intended this?? Or if it is a bug that needs fixing.
