Are you sure that you're not trying to Devourer while Xerath is channeling? Tahm's Devour cannot be cast on an ally that's channeling, and Xerath has two abilities that channel (Q and R).

Yes ive tried with my DUO who was in my skype call. We tried many many times to have tahm eat him even when he wasn't channeling any abilities.
