Gold/5 + Undo feature bug/exploit?

While I have no proof or screenshots, i was told by a friend a way to make extra gold while dead, buy purchasing a passive gold/5 item while dead, then selling it with the undo feature, giving the complete refund, in addition to the passive gold granted by the item itself.

After an argument with this friend regarding sportsmanship and such, I decided I wanted to bring it here to understand if this behavior is considered appropriate, if this a recognized exploit/bug, and if this behavior is condoned? or more so if this is a punishable offense (so i can attempt to save my friend)

This is an exploit- the passive item is a game-changing event. Most game-changing events are noticed and banned from refunds, like buying armor before getting hit by a jinx/ashe/cait ult in spawn. Rito should fix this right away.
