Late but 7/3 bronze 5. Whatever.
My problem is that new people will get placed into high silver even with a terrible win rate. Like I did my first promos ever, silver 2. Was I silver 2? NO.
Now I'm trying to climb in silver and dealing with people that, just like me, were placed in high silver but have no idea what they are doing.
If you've ever climbed the ladder from a say bronze 1 to silver 5, gold 1 to plat 5, you'll quickly realize that it doesn't feel like you are climbing a ladder at all. It feels like you actually went down. This is an enormous problem and extremely unhealthy to the game. Its also clear evidence that whatever system is in place, is very clearly not working as intended.
The ladder is just broken, plain and simple. With all the smurfs, trolls, bad connections, tilted players, bad players... its very hard to climb, its very very frustrating to play the game.
Its going to jack your mmr for sure.
The current system of judging a player according to being grouped with 4 randoms, against 5 randoms... whatever that math is- don't expect it to work with completely random variables thrown into every game. I guarantee you that everyones 'mmr' is completely inaccurate. Accurate to whatever it measures, but not accurate in regards to someones proficiency at the game. Fact. Because last game my mmr was adjusted to how I played with those 4 people against those 5 people- then next game it was measured against a completely different group. It doesn't take a genius to realize that this will not lend reliable data.

You gain or lose lp per game, set amount. That amount doubles +/- per win/loss in a row. Games are matched by current division and tier. Promos no longer exist, you start in bronze5 first season, bottom 5 of where you were from last season(same spot even, this doesn't matter as much). Everyone in the division starts there as well.
CONSISTENT REWARDS
This means if I win 3 in a row, say at +20lp, my third win in a row is +20lp + 40lp(2 win bonus). If I lose 3 in a row, -20lp - 40lp(2 loss bonus). Bad players will fall quickly, good players that impact games and carry will rise quickly. The ladder will sort itself out.
You could of course do whatever, this is just a simple idea. Basically, stop acting like the government and regulating everything, get out of the way and let the system balance itself out without trying to 'help'.
There are far more details to this, such as matching lanes and players to specific division->tier->even specific lp value if possible, but you get the general idea. There is also the question of how to start a new system, obviously this will piss off boosted players- but for the overall health of the game a major change is needed.
