Glitch with ranked queue?

Hi Riot,

Out of the last 22 ranked games, I have only gotten my first preference (mid) TWICE... which has caused me to go down in divisions, because I am not as good with the second preference (support)! It is very frustrating that despite making mid my first preference pick, I am only getting it around 1/10th of the time as of the last week.

Please help!

This is not a bug. This is just kind of how they coded the new ranked system. You're right that they should change how role distribution goes in matchmaking for reasons like this. The fact is that it's all based on popularity. Now, I obviously didn't code the new ranked system, so I can't be sure of the exact details. But support is an underplayed role in general. Mid lane, to my knowledge, is the most popular role. And that's why you get mid lane all the time. It's not just with support though. Recently I had played 10 games with top lane secondary, and I only got mid lane 2 times. If you ask me, Riot should change it so that the game measures how often you get your primary role, and everyone should be matched such that they get their main role a certain percentage of the time. This actually also causes a problem in matchmaking.

Say you have a guy who is Diamond 1 level at a certain lane, but Diamond 5 or lower at everything else. If he gets his main role only 10-20% of the time, then his rank is going to fall closer to around D5. Now every time he gets his main role, he's probably just going to stomp his opposing laner and win the game. Just because of the huge skill disparity. But if everyone got their main role the same percentage of the time, this kind of inbalance would never occur.
