Kassadin ult not doing damage sometimes

Okay so I was just in game as Kassadin and I noticed something odd. Most times when I landed right on top of someone or within the radius of it, it wouldn't damage the enemy. If someone could look into this or provide video proof of it for me that'd be great because I don't have anyway of doing that.
