New client spectate

After updating to the new client, I can no longer spectate my friends' games. The button to spectate is grayed out, and I cannot click on it, regardless of the friend or the game mode that they are playing.

Can we please know if the new client will have the option to spectate? a lot of people I know went back to the old client for that reason. Before doing that myself I rather have an official answer at the question because I kinda like the new layout.....
