spectating error

For about a week now, i've been unable to spectate any mode (friend or no friend) Everytime I press spectate, It goes black screen on me and the message (unable to load spectate mode) ( unable to connect to spectate mode) pops up and the screen automatically crashes into the quit screen where usually when you press exit spectate mode, it will pop up to ask you if you want to recconnect or quit. Please help. its so frustrating.
