Jhin Ult hit box

Played a game today and twice I was clearly out of Jhin's ult indicator but was still hit by it. I'd be ok with it if I were on the line but there was a clear gap between me and the side of the indicator. If jhin can hit outside of it, then what is the point of the indicator? Seriously makes no sense to even use indicators if they are not accurate.
