after champ select i get a full black screen and if i restart the same thing happens. i'm not running any third party apps so i dont really understand whats going on. (i'm on a mac) if somebody can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

I have the same issue, and nothing has helped so far. I even Re installed league and it still didn't work.

Im Happy to learn that im not the only one ive been trying to fix this for about 3 hours 
I have the same problem. I don't know if it was because of the spectating-sona-bug. I had tried to spectate a friend's game but turned out there was a Sona in it, and, whenever I tried to play a game after, the champion loading screen would remain black and I couldn't play. The day before this I was playing just fine
Press Enter-Space-Delete at the same time! IT WORK
Press enter when the black screen appears and wait a few seconds.
Same here. Getting so tired of it, at first it was just a black screen instead of champ select but if I tried to press any of the "recommended" buttons I'd get to loading screen for .5 seconds and then it'd crash. Now I installed El Capitan and the whole client shuts down after champ select instead.
