while playing ezreal there is a strange interaction with his e arcane shift and volibears q rolling thunder. if you use ezreal e when voli is running toward u with his q and u complete the cast of e volibear still throws you backward even though you are out of range of his ability. the result i expected would be similar to what happens with any other displacement such as a blitzcrank hook which is your blink cancels the displacement

In short, you timed it wrong; Ezreal's E will only cancel displacement effects if you buffer it so that Volibear's displacement begins during the cast animation. You went too early: melee autoattacks can't be cancelled by range, so he started the attack, you completed the animation and blinked away, and his attack completes and throws him behind you.
