Zyra Thorn Spitter (Q Plants) Buggy AI - Gameplay Bug

Zyra's Q plants have been bugged for a very long time, back before I believe even the mage update. Zyra was my favorite champion who got me to gold in my first season playing, so I knew there was a bug immediately and hoped it would be fixed, but after some time i recruited help from my friend, Hollow Jet, to create a video to submit.

When she grows her plants with Q, and directs them to attack an enemy champion in any way (such as landing the Q or autoing), the plant will grow and attack, BUT when the enemy champion walks out of range, the plants don't auto redirect to a new target, as if they are taunted and if they were taunted it would be working properly, but this just happens at any time with anyone. The plants will stare at the target until they walk back into range, and if they do, and then they leave range again, they will still not redirect automatically. (Represented in the video, along with how Zyra's plants target things.)

There is also a bug in this video where Zyra's Q plants aren't attacking at their full range Bonus round of the video, where Zyra fights Cait by tri-bush bot lane, though i have not attempted to re-create it, I wouldn't have known where to start, I just noticed it and asked my friend to include it in the video. It actually appears constantly in the video, where the plants should be attacking the champion as they walk back into their range, (as the bug has them do) but they don't, as if their range is reduced to approx. 350 instead of the intended 750. They are attacking with rule 4 at that point. If you watch the custom games, you can see that they don't attack their full 750 range, but they do attack before the 350 rule 4 range. Zyra's E plants appear to work just fine.

The way to recreate the bug for Q is to direct Q plants in any way to hit an enemy champion (hitting them with the Q, autoing, etc.). Watch them walk out of range. And they won't re-target.

I can reproduce this issue 100% of the time. Anywhere on the map, we just went to the best places where minions were present.

Honestly as much as i can try to explain i can't tell as much as i can show, please look at the video, it is very clear and detailed as to what is wrong.

Please get my favorite champ back up and running properly! It is very frustrating to play a champion that doesn't work as intended! -ADCs Sugar Mama

Dude I know how it feels but I think riot intent to code her plants like that because of "Support" role. They don't want her plants to steal the adc cs but this really does hurt her a bit in mid lane.

Hi, I'm the one who recorded and edited the video for my friend. I did briefly consider this, but the plants will also avoid attacking champions when they're in this state and in most cases (as in normal gameplay not included in this video) will properly attack cs; I believe it to be a bug.

Also the last time they clarified what Zyra plant's AI is supposed to do was patch 5.18, if this is intentional riot should probably mention it somewhere.

if i remember right riot made it so the plants don't auto atk champs unless you hit them first. They did this change cause she was supposed to be op as sup. it suck when they could have just reduced maybe damaege or something not the Ai cause that makes her a little more inconsistent. It also makes it harder to poke ppl who are out of you range with plants.

Patch 5.18 zyra's plants were given the following attack priority:

  1. Taunt sources (even if out of range)
  2. Most-recently-applied high-priority marks (champions zyra has auto attacked)
  3. NEAREST LESSER-PRIORITY MARKS TO PLANTS (units attacked by other zyra plants)
  4. NEAREST ENEMY CHAMPIONS WITHIN 350 UNITS OF PLANTS
  5. Non-champions Zyra has most-recently attacked
  6. Closest unit in range

Patch 6.13 there was this: BUG FIX: Thorn Spitters automatically targeting enemy champions even if Zyra doesn't damage them

That bug fix was about champions that zyra didn't mark having higher priority than they should have (if zyra doesn't attack something in the plants range & there's no champion within 350 units then the plants should only choose to attack the closest unit regardless of nearby champions/minions/monsters).

The bug outlined in this video is zyra plants sitting idle and not attacking anything when there's still valid units in their range going against the stated "6. Closest unit in range" part of their attack priority.

It's very mentionable the same bug happens with Heim's turrets and structures.
