Brand ult targeting Zed's shadow?

Video here I love Brand and don't want him nerfed, but this seems more like a bug than a feature. This Zed R'd back to his ult shadow immediately after I ulted him. Once the swapped shadow ran out, the real Zed took the hit from my ult and died. It looks like one of two things happened:

1. The ult hit him once, the shadow somehow became a target and held the second shot in stasis, and then the damage switched to real Zed when the shadow ended. But, while he appeared to take some extra damage while burning (maybe like 100, and probably just a combination of DoT ticks) he definitely didn't take a full ult hit the first time, and the number of bounces to minions suggests the ult would have to have been reset somehow.
2. The Brand ult lost its sprite when Zed ulted, but was still following him invisibly, and just happened to strike him right at the same time Zed's shadow vanished.

Either way, looks like a bug. I don't want to get kills due to bugs (honestly though I don't expect this fixed while many other bugs have been around for years on these boards...).
